Are We So Different?

-

I used to think I was the same as everyone
'Til I heard a word that turned it all around

Came home from school one day confused with who I was
I didn't understand the hatred I had found

And in my mind were many questions
A child of interracial love
And I'm askin'

Are we so different? or
Are we the same?
Is it what we feel inside?

They say it's ignorance
But when will it change?
Do we see in black and white?

As I grew older I had different sets of friends
Tryin' to find the place where I could be myself

Night after night I'd watch my parents go on stage

And the music always healed the pain I felt

And then one day it spoke to me

And said, ''Use me to release what's on your mind.''

Now I'm singing...

Are we so different? or

Are we the same?

Is it what we feel inside?

They say it's ignorance
But when will it change?
Do we see in black and white?

It happens everyday
Don't want to complicate these colors in my picture I just find
See my view in life is different
Now I know and I can live it
But these questions must be answered all the time

Are we so different? or
Are we the same?
Is it what we feel inside?

They say it's ignorance
But when will it change?
Do we see in black and white?

Would you like to share your thoughts,
are we so different or the same?

Every day means different things to different people. Each day is a big day for everyone, a day fulfilled new hopes and promises. Not sometimes I feel the world is upto 'me' but it is upto 'us' for always, and will be.

In this hyper-connected world as well!

I advise you to visit The House in The Roses, which contains a dose of inspirational articles that will motivate and engage you in the importance of our day.

  1. There are so many ways in which people are the same as well as different. The important lesson to be learned is to celebrate and share our differences instead of judging them.

This makes me think of the song I learned in Sunday School as a child.

    "Jesus loves the little children,
All the children of the world.
Red and yellow, black and white,
They are precious in His sight.
Jesus love the children of the world."

Let us so love one another.

  2. Oh well there are a lot of things that can be said but most people are the same in basic though each person is unique, but we all need love don't we? I can't deny there are people I hate and I can't see anything good in them, I'm sorry but that's the way it is, it has nothing to with black or white.

Your posts don't help me to un-blog do they?

  3. I beleve that in some things we are the same. As humans we can hurt, , have joy, compation, learn, ect. and our only difference lie in the caracter we chose to have. Thank you for this post.

  4. Another lovely post, Nihal! My belief is that, yes, we are all different and unique and that is something to celebrate. But at the heart of it all, we are the same as most of us want peace and love for our family and friends. We all aspire to certain dreams that allow us to express our talents and skills. My wish for our world would be that people would recognise our differences and celebrate that for it is what makes us all so interesting!! I find this post timely following the piece you wrote on the Turkish artist who is blind. He cannot physically see and yet he does. He paints beautiful scenes that make others happy so does this mean the soul sees the beauty in all things and only vision with our eyes shows the differences in our skin color, our way of life, etc.? Hope that makes sense. On Christmas Eve I will be singing a solo at church, the little song "Some children see him lily white....." because I truly feel it represents that we all see Jesus with our own eyes and yet we aspire to the kindness and caring that he eminates. And again, I hope I am making sense. I have visited House of Roses in the past and I love the post of the doves. Your blog always makes me think and gives me a bit of knowledge each time I read your posts. Thank you so much!!
